Daphne du Maurier.By far the most famous local author is Daphne du Maurier, who was heavily influenced by the beauty and history of Fowey and the surrounding countryside. Much of the Literary Centre is dedicated to her life and work.

Kenneth Grahame.A great friend of Q's' who often came to stay in Fowey for holidays. It is said his boat trips along the River Fowey influenced his most famous book, 'The Wind in the Willows'.
Leo Walmsley.A Yorkshire-man who settled in Fowey. His books focused heavily on his childhood home of Robin Hood's Bay, as well as his escape to Cornwall and his life living in an old army hut, off Pont Creek.

Many of their titles are reprints of works from the last century, produced by a number of scholars who collected stories, traditions and customs at first hand. They believe that these pioneering works should be given another airing.
