Miracle Theatre

4 Florence Terrace

Falmouth

Tel: 01326 316528

Miracle Theatre began life in 1979 with "The Beginning of the World", a very free adaptation of the first part of the Ordinalia (the medieval Cornish Miracle Play). This open-air production was performed in parks, gardens and town squares all over Cornwall. Since then, every year the company has toured a new production throughout Cornwall and the West of England, opening up new outdoor venues and reaching new audiences. Since 1994 a second indoor winter show has been been produced each year to tour around the region's theatres, arts centre and village halls.

The company's annual programme also includes regular theatre workshops for children and special one-off projects such as the recent role-playing workshops commissioned by Cornwall County Council and sponsored by English Heritage and the National Trust as part of the 500th anniversary celebrations of the 'An Gof' rebellion.

Although occasionally presenting 'classic' texts (such as last year's production of "A Midsummer Night's Dream", which has been helpful in terms of audience development) Miracle Theatre is mainly committed to producing new work: in the past this has been written by two company members, Steven Clarke and Bill Scott, but the company is now actively seeking opportunities to commission work from other local writers.

Miracle Theatre's work is now funded by South West Arts, Cornwall County Council, Carrick & Restormel District Councils and Falmouth Town Council. The company visits about 70 venues and performs to over 10,000 people each year. Based in Falmouth, Miracle Theatre now provides professional employment for seven people for over 5 months each year.
